Mason Greenwood Leads Marseille to Victory Over Nantes in Ligue 1
Marseille bounced back from last week’s loss to Auxerre with a commanding 2-0 victory over Nantes at the Vélodrome. Goals from Amine Gouiri and Mason Greenwood secured three valuable points in Ligue 1.
Despite the win, Roberto De Zerbi’s squad remains 13 points behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain. However, they hold a three-point advantage over Nice, who sit third, and a six-point lead over Monaco, currently in fourth.
Late Breakthrough Seals the Win
Nantes, under Antoine Kombouaré, put up a solid defensive effort but ultimately crumbled in the closing stages. The deadlock was broken in the 75th minute when Valentin Rongier delivered a pinpoint cross that Amine Gouiri nodded past Anthony Lopes. Just two minutes later, in the 77th, Greenwood put the game to bed with a brilliant solo effort.
With this goal, the former Getafe forward now has 15 goals in Ligue 1, making him the league’s second-highest scorer—just three behind Ousmane Dembélé of Paris Saint-Germain.
