Top of Ligue 1 Belongs to Nice Again After Win Against Stade Rennes
Nice secured the necessary victory at Allianz Riviera against Stade Rennes (2-0) to reclaim the top spot in the French Ligue 1 on matchday eleven.
Under pressure from Paris Saint-Germain, who won their match against Montpellier, Nice responded with their fourth consecutive victory.
The only unbeaten team in the French competition found the back of the net against the Villarreal's rival in the Europa League just before halftime, courtesy of Ivorian Jeremie Boga, assisted by Hichem Boudaoui.
The final stretch of the game remained uncertain as the improvement of the visiting team was accompanied by the expulsion of Burundian Youssouf Ndayishimye in the 74th minute.
Rennes, who has now gone four games without a win, failed to capitalize on this situation and moved further away from European contention. In fact, they also lost a player, as Sofiane Diop received a red card in the 87th minute.
Nice is now one point ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and two points ahead of second-placed Monaco.
