VIDEO | Ligue 1 Highlights: Lyon vs Brest
Lyon and Brest starred in one of the best matches of the season, with an exciting 4-3 victory for the home team. They staged a thrilling comeback by scoring three goals in the final stretch of the match, marking a spectacular return after being in relegation positions for a long time. The goals for the victory were scored by Tolisso, Lacazette, Tagliafico, and Maitland-Niles. For the visitors, Steve Mounié and Romain Del Castillo netted sensational braces.
A penalty converted by Alexander Lacazette in the 105th minute tilted the game in favor of Lyon, in a match full of twists and turns, with two players sent off, and frenetic action in the last half-hour that ended up souring Brest's victory chances.
In the 67th minute, the visiting side, a revelation this season, sitting in the second position in Ligue 1 just behind Paris Saint-Germain, led 1-3 after eight minutes of brilliance from Romain del Castillo, who scored two goals and provided an assist in the three goals for Eric Roy's team.
The match progressed somewhat calmly in the first half, ending with the home team in the lead thanks to Corentin Tolisso's goal, who capitalized on a rebound after a free-kick taken by Said Benrahma.
There was a lot at stake at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais. Lyon still hopes to secure a European spot despite their poor start to the season. Brest clings to second place amid Monaco's threat, who are third just one point behind.
Brest responded strongly after the one-hour mark and turned the game around. In the 60th minute, they equalized with a goal from Beninese Steve Mounie, who headed in a set-piece delivered by Romain del Castillo, who then put his team ahead five minutes later with a perfectly executed free-kick. He also scored the third in the 68th minute, assisted by Kamory Doumbia, making it 1-3.
Lyon accelerated, unbeaten in their last five matches. Alexander Lacazette reduced the deficit in the 70th minute, and Argentine Nicolás Tagliafico equalized in the 79th minute after finishing off a ball received from Mathis Cherki in the box.
Tension also erupted in the match. In the 89th minute, Tagliafico feigned a punch at Pierre Lees Melou, who retaliated. The referee showed yellow cards to both, the second for both players.
And in added time, in the last action of the match, visiting goalkeeper Marco Bizot brought down Lacazette. VAR clarified the incident, indicating a penalty. Lacazette didn't miss, scoring the winning goal.
The victory leaves Lyon seventh, two points behind Lens, who occupy the European zone. Brest is second, ten points behind leaders PSG and just one ahead of third-placed Monaco.
