Aubameyang Rescues Marseille And Spoils Endrick’s Brilliant Night Against Lyon
Two late goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang lifted Marseille to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Lyon at the Stade Vélodrome, leaving the visitors with back-to-back defeats in Ligue 1. The Togolese striker delivered when it mattered most, overshadowing an impressive performance from Brazilian youngster Endrick, who was directly involved in both of Lyon’s goals.
The forward, currently on loan from Real Madrid, was the standout performer for the visitors. However, his efforts were not enough to prevent a second consecutive setback for the side managed by Paulo Fonseca, whose team had seen a 13-match winning streak snapped just a week earlier against Strasbourg.
Endrick Shines, But Lyon Fall Short
The match began at a frenetic pace. Just three minutes in, Corentin Tolisso opened the scoring after a sharp assist from Endrick, who applied high pressure to spark the move. The Brazilian nearly doubled the advantage moments later, but his attempt narrowly sailed over the crossbar guarded by Gerónimo Rulli.
Marseille responded after halftime and found the equalizer in the 52nd minute when Igor Paixao converted a pass from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to make it 1-1. The intensity only increased as both teams pushed forward in the closing stages.
Endrick once again played a key role, delivering a precise cross that allowed Remi Himbert to restore Lyon’s lead. It seemed the visitors were on course for victory, but the final minutes told a different story.
Aubameyang Turns The Game Around
With time running out, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang took center stage. He first leveled the score after a corner flicked on by Paixao, finishing calmly past Dominik Greif to make it 2-2.
Then, deep into stoppage time, the veteran striker completed the comeback. After receiving a pass from Ethan Nwaneri, Aubameyang fired home the winner in the 91st minute, sealing a dramatic 3-2 triumph.
The victory ended a four-match winless streak for Marseille and revived their European ambitions, while Lyon now face mounting pressure with Lille and Stade Rennes closing in behind them.
What looked set to be a breakthrough night for Endrick ultimately became a showcase of experience and composure from Aubameyang, who changed the course of the match in just ten decisive minutes.
