Hirving Lozano Sets High Goals in MLS with San Diego FC
Mexican international Hirving "Chucky" Lozano has made his ambitions clear after signing with San Diego FC, the new MLS franchise: "to win titles and trophies." During a press conference in Miami Beach, the forward emphasized his determination to work hard and take things "step by step" to achieve success. "My goal is to make the playoffs, and although it might sound arrogant, I’d like to become a champion," Lozano stated with conviction.
Lozano expressed his excitement about joining a league he sees as constantly growing. "The MLS is attracting important players worldwide, and I’m happy to contribute my bit," he said. He also highlighted the significance of representing San Diego FC in its inaugural season, a project that inspired him due to its strategic location between Mexico and the United States.
The "Chucky" noted that the vision of coach Mikey Varas and the opportunity to leave a legacy in a new team were decisive factors in his decision. "The possibility of leaving a mark gave me the clarity to accept joining San Diego," said the forward, who is determined to make the team a key contender in the league and energize fans in its first games.
Coming from PSV Eindhoven, Lozano fondly remembered his farewell in the Netherlands, where fans gave him an emotional send-off. During his time in Europe, he also played for Napoli in Italy, making an impact at both clubs. "I left Europe, but I’m very happy and satisfied with what I achieved there," the Mexican star said, closing a seven-year chapter in European football.
San Diego FC, set to debut in the MLS this year, hopes Lozano will be a key player in its project. The forward joins the team with "all the energy and attitude" to make a difference as the league continues to attract international stars.
Lozano knows that the first matches will be crucial for the team and special for him. With his ambition and experience, he aims to lead San Diego FC to success in its first year in the Major League Soccer.
