VIDEO | Luis Suárez Seal Inter Miami Comeback With a Brace
Inter Miami came back from behind (1-3) against DC United thanks to a brace from Luis Suárez, who only played the last half-hour in the first game missed by Lionel Messi after getting injured this week. Gerardo "Tata" Martino left Uruguayan and Jordi Alba on the bench for the match at Audi Field, which seemed to cause nerves among Inter Miami players who initially ceded control to DC United.
Inter Miami, led by Busquets in midfield, gained some control and threatened DC United with a header from Campana that Bono managed to clear. But in the resulting play, Ecuadorian player scored with a goal from the edge of the box assisted by Redondo in the 24th minute.
The equalizer led to a period where Inter dominated but without creating much danger until the added time when Busquets provided an assist to Taylor, whose shot hit the post. The second half started evenly with no clear goal-scoring opportunities, prompting Martino to send Luis Suárez to warm up on the sidelines and brought him on in the 62nd minute, replacing Taylor.
Suárez wasted no time in making an impact, putting Inter Miami ahead ten minutes later with a close-range finish assisted by Campana. Shortly before that, Benteke had a chance with a header that narrowly missed the post, going from a potential 2-1 lead to a 1-2 deficit.
After the goal, Martino also brought on Alba, adding depth to Inter's attack with three former Barcelona players on the field. As DC United, undefeated until this Saturday in the league, pushed for an equalizer, they were caught off guard by a steal from Paraguayan player Diego Gómez in midfield, who assisted Luis Suárez to secure the final 3-1 lead in the 85th minute.
Suárez found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his initial shot was blocked by defenders, so he took a few steps back and chipped the ball over Bono, who managed to get a touch but couldn't keep it out.
