Colorado Rapids v FC Dallas: 'Amazing' Acosta can help create magic moments
Luciano Acosta, who was named MLS MVP in 2023, joined FC Dallas in a blockbuster move from FC Cincinnati in the off-season.
FC Dallas have a game-changer on board in the form of Luciano Acosta, so says forward Petar Musa.
Acosta, who was named MLS MVP in 2023, joined Dallas over the off-season in a shock switch from FC Cincinnati.
The Argentine took the captain's armband in his league debut for his new club last week, as he helped Dallas to a 2-1 comeback win against the Houston Dynamo.
Petar Musa scored and assisted for Dallas, and with Acosta pulling the strings behind him, the attacker feels his team can achieve something special this year.
As reported by Big D Soccer, Musa said: "We have a lot of new faces on the team from players, all the way to staff.
"We know Lucho is an amazing player and we know he can bring more creativity in the attacking moments.
"I am happy that I have him in my team and hopefully we can create good moments this season.
"We have a good team, a good pre-season and we are going to be ready for the next game."
Dallas head coach Eric Quill got off to an ideal start, and believes Dallas' comeback at Houston shows a new-found mentality.
"To go down 1-0 and have the response that we had says a lot about what these guys have been doing over the last few weeks," he said.
"Our mentality is shifting to where we believe we can play against anybody and we are here to win and we are not going to stop.
"Every player who stepped on the field brought the level up and fought hard over 90 minutes to get the win. Even the guys who didn't get the chance to come in still had that energy and desire to win.
"I am truly amazed at what this group has accomplished in such a short amount of time and I am looking forward to more. I am excited for the club and for our guys."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Colorado Rapids - Rafael Navarro
The Rapids managed just two shots in their season-opening draw with St. Louis City SC.
They are the first team to attempt two or fewer shots in a season opener since the Rapids themselves in 2015 (two vs the Philadelphia Union).
If they are to get anything out of this clash, then they will need to ensure striker Navarro, who had one of their attempts last week, is not so isolated.
FC Dallas - Petar Musa
Musa was involved in both of Dallas' goals against Houston last week.
He has been involved in four of the six goals Dallas scored over their last four regular-season matches dating back to the end of last season (two goals, two assists).
MATCH PREDICTION: COLORADO WIN
The Rapids are unbeaten in their last five matches against FC Dallas (W4 D1) including winning the last two meetings.
Colorado have not won three straight matches against Dallas since 2000-01.
The Rapids are also looking to go unbeaten through two matches of the regular season for just the second time since 2016 (W2 to begin the 2020 season).
Dallas, meanwhile, have not won consecutive away matches in all competitions in nearly seven years, since a three-match run in May-June 2018.
