What Injury Did Lionel Messi Sustain That Prevented Him From Playing in Puerto Rico?
Lionel Messi’s Injury
Inter Miami CF provided a medical update on the condition of captain Lionel Messi.
Messi did not take part in training on Wednesday, February 11, due to a left hamstring strain sustained during the match against Barcelona SC in Ecuador, an issue that has persisted since then.
The player underwent additional medical tests, which confirmed the diagnosis.
His gradual return to training will depend on his clinical and functional progress in the coming days.
Inter Miami Postpones Puerto Rico Match Due to Lionel Messi Injury
The highly anticipated match between Inter Miami and Independiente del Valle in Puerto Rico has been postponed until February 26 due to a Lionel Messi injury, the MLS club confirmed.
Messi himself explained in an Instagram story shared by Inter Miami that he finished the last match in Ecuador “with some discomfort,” which led the club and event organizers to decide to reschedule the game.
“Together with the organizers, the club decided to postpone this match (…) I want to thank you for the love because I know the game was sold out,” the Argentine star said in a message addressed to fans in Puerto Rico.
VRDG Entertainment Group, the company in charge of producing the Puerto Rico event, described the situation as “unfortunate news,” but explained that all parties agreed the event should take place with Messi’s participation, as he is the main attraction.
The tickets, which sold out in just 17 minutes, will remain valid for the new date. The match and a planned open training session were scheduled to take place at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón.
Inter Miami’s preseason tour has already included stops in Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador, though none of those countries hosted an open training session like the one that had been planned in Puerto Rico.
