Lech back on top Legia out of the cellar Polish PKO BP Ekstraklasa Round 26
Round 26 of the Polish PKO BP Ekstraklasa has landed us some surprises, a new leader on the table and continued unbeaten runs
Round 26 Wrap-up:
- 22 goals scored (2.44/game). 6 wins for the home teams, 1 for the visitors, 2 ties.
- Motor Lublin extended their unbeaten run to 5 (4W/1T). Karol Czubak’s team beat Zagłębie Lubin, and the Polish striker assisted on the lone goal by Mbaye Ndiaye. The Senegalese 22-year-old has the most Ekstraklasa goals in 2026 (5g in 7 games)
- Nothing happens twice? Not in Białystok! For the second straight week, Jagiellonia suffered a 1:2 home defeat, and both goals for the winning team came from the same player. Last week it was Piast Gliwice’s Hugo Vallejo, and on Saturday Jaga’s nightmare was a 28-year old Australian Deni Jurić. Ex-Crvena Zvezda forward, who now has 5 tallies on the season, was called up to the Australia national team for the upcoming friendlies vs Cameroon and Curacao.
- Korona Kielce scored three goals in the span of just 22 minutes to dispatch Arka Gdynia, which now finds itself in the relegation zone
- Cracovia ended their 6-game winless streak at home (3T/3T), which stretched for 5 months (since Oct 18, 2025)! They did that in their match vs GKS Katowice, which was decided by Ajdin Hasić’s penalty kick in the 80th minute. It was Bosnia and Herzegovina international’s 7th goal of the campaign.
- The only game which saw no goals took place in Łódź, where Widzew hosted Górnik Zabrze. The home side, which spent 15-20 mil Euro on winter transfers, continues to disappoint in 2026. They won only 2 of 9 games and scored just 6 goals (worst in the league)
- Former Wake Forest and FC Dallas player (over 100 games in MLS) Ema Twumasi scored his first career goal for Piast Gliwice, which moved up two spots in the standings (#11) and remains the only Ekstraklasa side with no ties in 2026 (5W/4L).
- No Bobcek, no problem? Lechia Gdańsk and Ekstraklasa’s top scorer Tomas Bobcek missed his second straight game, but John Carver’s side took care of business vs Pogoń Szczecin and won its 11th game of the season (only Lech Poznań have more)
No Winner in Papszun Derby
Legia Warszawa’s seven-game run (2W/5T) without a loss is now the longest in the league, thanks to a 1:1 tie in a highly anticipated clash against Raków Częstochowa. Marek Papszun, who, between 2016 and 2025, coached Raków in over 350 games, winning 5 trophies, sought to beat his former club, which was eliminated from the Conference League mid-week (lost 1:2 to Fiorentina at home). But they fell behind in the 6th minute (Lamine Diaby-Fadiga’s 6th of the season) and had to desperately look for an equaliser. It finally came in the 71st minute: Jean-Pierre Nsame converted the penalty, but left the field shortly after. It could be devastating news for the Army Men - who struggled trying to find a reliable striker this season - and Nsame, who missed months of the action (August 31 2025 - March 13 2026) due to an Achilles injury.
Champions Back on Top
It took 26 rounds for the defending champions Lech Poznań to climb to the top of the Ekstraklasa standings. Thanks to 3 goals in the span of just 5 minutes (a double by Leo Bengtsson and a 5th of the season by Ali Gholizadeh) “Kolejorz” steam-rolled past Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza 4:1. Despite a mid-week exit from the Conference League (Lech beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2:1, but fell 3:4 on aggregate), things are looking good for Niels Frederiksen’s side, who - thanks to Jagiellonia and Zagłębie upsets - now have a 3-point cushion. For Termalica, it is just the opposite as the Elephants’ winless streak has now reached 8 (3T/5L).
What to look out for in Round 27?
All eyes on Białystok! Due to the international break, which will decide the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fate for the Polish national team (if the White and Reds beat Albania in Warsaw on Thursday, March 26 they will face either Ukraine or Sweden away on the last day of March in the Path B final), the league pauses until April 4th. And what treat awaits all Ekstraklasa fans upon return! Jagiellonia, in a game that can decide this season’s championship, will host Lech Poznań. It’s Jesus Imaz/Afimico Pululu vs Mikael Ishak, it’s Taras Romańczuk vs Antoni Kozubal, it’s Adrian Siemieniec vs Niels Frederiksen, and it’s 2024 Champs vs 2025 winners. In the first round, the game in Poznań ended in a 2:2 thriller. This one builds up to be even more exciting and important.
