Ruud van Nistelrooy Disappointed by His Departure from Manchester United
Despite delivering an impressive performance as interim manager of Manchester United in November, achieving three wins and a draw, Ruud van Nistelrooy believes he deserved more recognition from the Red Devils’ board, who decided not to keep him in the role. Instead of offering him continuity, the club chose to start a new chapter by appointing Ruben Amorim, former Sporting Lisbon manager, as the first-team head coach.
Recently appointed as manager of newly promoted Leicester City, Van Nistelrooy has quickly found a new challenge in the Premier League, although he has yet to move on from his former club’s decision. “When I took the interim position, after Erik ten Hag’s departure, I said I was here to help United and that I wanted to stay, and I meant it. That’s why I felt really disappointed and hurt to have to leave,” the coach confessed in an interview with the BBC, making it clear that he had expected a different treatment from the club’s board.
“In the end, I understood”
Although leaving Manchester United was hard to accept, Van Nistelrooy insists he holds no grudges against his successor, who has made a strong start at the helm of the team, as evidenced by the recent 4-0 victory of the Red Devils over Everton. “In the end, I understood because I also understand the new coach. I’ve been in football for a long time, and I’ve learned how things work. I get it,” stated the new Foxes manager, determined to move forward.
The recent 3-1 victory of Leicester over West Ham, the team’s first win in a month and a half in the Premier League, seems to be a positive step for Van Nistelrooy as he embarks on this new chapter as a coach.
