Setback for Amorim at Manchester United as Luke Shaw Injured Again
Absent from mid-August to mid-October, the English full-back of Manchester United has been injured again and will miss several weeks of competition.
Luke Shaw thought he had left his injury troubles behind. After being sidelined since mid-August due to knee and calf injuries, the English full-back appeared to have found his way back to form towards the end of the last international break. Three 30-minute outings helped him regain rhythm and step back into life as a top-level athlete.
However, that clear path to recovery now seems to have been short-lived. Yesterday, the 29-year-old posted a message on social media revealing that he had suffered another injury. “It’s tough to write this… but unfortunately, I have a new small injury. I’ve had many ups and downs, but this is definitely my lowest point. I’m devastated,” he wrote.
Out for several weeks
Shaw, who sustained the injury during Manchester United’s final training session, has not yet provided further details regarding the exact nature of the injury or his availability, but it seems likely that he will be out for several weeks. He is set to miss Wednesday’s clash against Arsenal, a fresh blow for a player already enduring a tough year in terms of fitness.
The 29-year-old, who suffered a thigh injury earlier in 2024, had been out for the entire month of January before facing another muscle issue that ruled him out for the remainder of the season. Despite the setbacks, Shaw earned a spot in Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2024, where he played a key role in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final.
A Resilient Character
“What I can promise is that I will do everything I can to get back to full fitness quickly and help the club achieve its goals this season,” Shaw concluded, thanking those who have supported him. His resilience and determination have earned him respect, especially given that, according to ESPN, he has missed 264 matches over the past 10 years with Manchester United due to injuries.
