Mikel Arteta Sends Warning Ahead of Arsenal's Premier League Title Defense
Arsenal are ready to defend their crown, but Mikel Arteta has made it clear that conquering England was only the beginning of a much bigger project.
Arsenal are ready to begin their Premier League title defense, but Mikel Arteta has made it clear that lifting the trophy last season has done nothing to diminish the ambition of a team now determined to establish itself among the biggest forces in world football.
The Gunners enter the new campaign after beating Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield and once again find themselves among the favorites for the title. Arteta embraces that pressure as a natural consequence of his team's remarkable progress.
"When I look into the eyes of my players and I see that fire, that desire and the will to be better every single day. That's the only thing that I care about," Arteta told Sky Sports ahead of Arsenal's Premier League opener.
Arsenal's Ultimate Goal Goes Far Beyond England
Arteta does not simply want to conquer England again. The Spanish manager revealed that the ambition shared by the club and its owners is to turn Arsenal into the best club in the world.
"It's certainly the ambition of the club and the owners to be the best club in the world," Arteta said, explaining that reaching that level requires elite facilities, a world-class stadium, outstanding supporters and, crucially, a squad capable of competing with anyone.
The Arsenal boss also made it clear that recruitment will remain fundamental to the club's progress. Arteta believes the Gunners need the best players available, particularly those capable of deciding matches when the biggest trophies are on the line.

Arsenal Will Keep Hunting for Elite Signings
That ambition is also reflected in Arsenal's transfer strategy. The club has already spent £143.5 million on four summer signings, but the hierarchy does not consider its work complete.
Chief executive Richard Garlick explained that Arsenal's recent success has completely changed the profile of player the club is targeting. Rather than simply adding depth, the Gunners now need signings capable of immediately improving a squad that won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final.
That inevitably leaves Arsenal shopping in a much smaller pool of elite talent. The club will therefore continue looking for opportunities during the final weeks of the transfer window without making additions simply for the sake of strengthening the squad numerically.
The Premier League Title Defense Begins
Arteta knows repeating last season's success will be an enormous challenge, but he believes his dressing room has the ambition and conviction required to do it again.
"That's an opportunity that we have ahead, and we are very conscious of what it's going to take to deliver that. But I feel the ambition, I feel the desire, and I feel the ability and the conviction around the team that we can do it," he explained.
Arsenal will begin their Premier League title defense against Coventry on Friday with an immediate goal of retaining their crown. Arteta's message, however, makes it clear that the project is aiming even higher: the Gunners do not just want to dominate England — they want to become the best club in the world.
