Guardiola's First Ever Collapse After Leading by Three Goals
For the first time in his career as a coach, Pep Guardiola watched his team squander a three-goal lead, as Manchester City drew 3-3 with Feyenoord.
City had gone 3-0 up thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland and a goal from Ilkay Gündogan, but the Dutch side mounted a stunning comeback in the final 15 minutes. This marked the first time in Guardiola's career—spanning over 900 elite-level matches—that his team had failed to hold on to a three-goal advantage.
Interestingly, Guardiola has now had ten instances where his team scored three goals in a match and didn't win. This occurred twice during his time at Barcelona (one draw and one loss), once in his three years at Bayern Munich (a draw), and seven times at Manchester City, with six draws and one loss.
For English football, this is the third instance of a team losing a three-goal lead in the Champions League, after Arsenal's collapse against Anderlecht in 2014 and Liverpool’s in 2017 against Sevilla.
