Liverpool Could Lose One of its Stars Against PSG in The Champions League
A day before the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 between PSG and Liverpool, Cody Gakpo missed training and could miss this crucial match.
While many think of Mohamed Salah as the primary threat for the Reds, the English side has other offensive weapons that pose a significant danger. While the Parisians will pay special attention to the Egyptian on Wednesday at the Parc des Princes, they must also stay alert to the speed and skill of Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez, regular attacking partners of Salah. Both are a real threat to the PSG defense, something Luis Enrique emphasized in a press conference, describing the three Liverpool forwards as "fighter jets."
However, while the Barcelona coach focuses his tactics on containing these three forwards, he may not have to worry about Gakpo. The Dutchman, who has been dealing with an ankle injury since February 12, when he faced Everton in the Merseyside derby (2-2), could miss the match. According to L'Équipe, the 25-year-old forward missed Liverpool's last training session, the one before this Wednesday's match, which will be held in Paris.
Three confirmed absences for Liverpool
A starter during the first half of the season, Gakpo has had a more secondary role in recent weeks, coming on as a substitute. He missed the Premier League matches against Wolverhampton and Aston Villa (February 16 and 19) before participating in victories against Manchester City and Newcastle (February 23 and 26), coming on in the second half.
Although his absence has not been confirmed yet, Arne Slot could clarify his status in the press conference scheduled. What is certain is that the Dutch coach will not be able to rely on Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez, and Tyler Morton, who have been sidelined for some time due to injuries.
