Pedri With a Champions League Performance Reminiscent of Iniesta
Pedro González 'Pedri', the midfielder for Barcelona, stated after a brilliant performance in their 3-0 win against Brest in the Champions League that former player and Barcelona legend Andrés Iniesta is his "idol" and he tries to emulate him.
Pedri's idol and all of Spain’s:
"Iniesta was an outstanding player, my idol. I try to be like him, but of course, there are differences. He had a spectacular career, and I hope mine turns out a bit like his," said the Canary Islander in the mixed zone at the Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys.
Pedri emphasized the importance of "coming away with the win against a team that hadn't lost" in the Champions League and also pointed out that "goals are very important for qualification at this stage."
"If we’d scored a few more, it would’ve been better, but it was still an important win," he added. The midfielder analyzed the keys to his performance: "I feel more comfortable in a deeper position, I touch the ball a lot. I mainly try to bring calm to the game because we often rush things. I try to help the team slow it down and maintain possession. When I have the ball, I enjoy it on the pitch, and that shows."
Barcelona's return to the winning path:
The Spanish international also admitted that keeping a clean sheet was crucial: "People started saying they had figured out our defense, but we were sure that wasn’t the case. If we pressured the player with the ball, it would work out," he stated.
Regarding the meeting that, according to some media, took place this Tuesday between his representatives and the club to discuss his renewal, the Spanish international said that he was "focused on the match" and would talk to his representatives later, though he reminded everyone that he is "happy" at Barcelona.
