Raphinha Rescues Barcelona, Bringing Back Memories of Messi-Neymar in Champions
In a match where FC Barcelona suffered the expulsion of Pau Cubarsí and had to fight against the tide in their clash with Benfica, it was Raphinha who made the difference with a goal that could prove invaluable in a tie heading to the Catalan capital.
In this context, the Brazilian attacker’s goal served to remind fans of one of the most lethal duos in the competition’s history for the Blaugrana, echoing the goal-scoring feats of Messi and Neymar from nearly 10 years ago.
The Raphinha-Lewandowski Duo
Between Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, they have combined for at least nine goals each—something that hadn’t occurred at Barça since Messi and Neymar did so in the distant 2014-2015 season.
The Argentine and the Brazilian both scored 10 goals each that year, when they won the Champions League by defeating Juventus 3-1 in the final.
Now, Raphinha and Lewandowski are the second duo to reach this milestone.
