Kompany insists 'the main priority is always to win' ahead of Leverkusen return leg
Bayern Munich have one foot in their 35th Champions League/European Cup quarter-final, at 3-0 to the good against Bayer Leverkusen.
Vincent Kompany called for focus from Bayern Munich, despite their healthy advantage heading into the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern have one foot in the quarter-finals, following their 3-0 victory over their compatriots at the Allianz Arena last week, in which Harry Kane (twice) and Jamal Musiala were on target.
Kompany's side were brought back down to earth in the Bundesliga on Saturday, when they suffered a shock 3-2 defeat from 2-0 up against relegation-threatened Bochum.
Nevertheless, they switch their attention back towards securing a 35th quarter-final appearance in the Champions League/European Cup.
Despite their strong position, Kompany insisted his side will play to win the second leg, and not be distracted by last week's exploits.
"You cannot go into the game like that. When you start a game, the main priority is always to win," Kompany told reporters during his pre-match press conference.
"We still have to deliver our best performance to win it. It is a very important game tomorrow. It is not only about Leverkusen's first goal, but also about Bayern's first goal as well.
"In the end, it will be the quality of players who will decide the game. But if you only think about what the other team needs, then that could end up happening.
"You can never know the future. We have to prepare for what we can, and believe in what we can do."
