Bellingham Apologizes to England and Praises Spain
Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid player, praised the Spanish national team and opened up about England's loss in the Euro 2024 final, which took place last Sunday at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, admitting to feeling "sadness and disappointment" after losing to Luis de la Fuente's squad.
"I'm still trying to process the final, but the main feelings are sadness and disappointment. It hurts to have come so close to making history and not being able to deliver for the English fans who supported us through the ups and downs of the tournament. So, we can only raise our hands and apologize," the English star began writing.
The 21-year-old English player took advantage of Gareth Southgate stepping down as England's coach to express his feelings on his personal Instagram account. In that post, Bellingham mentioned that they fell "short" of beating a "great rival" like the Spanish national team.
The English midfielder noted that despite the loss, "it's easy to focus on the negatives of playing in a big tournament." "But some of the atmospheres and celebrations I witnessed were a constant reminder of the love you all have for this team," he added.
He also highlighted that the goal he scored, a bicycle kick against Slovakia in the 95th minute to save England from elimination, is "one of the most important and memorable moments" in his "sports career."
