Cristiano Ronaldo breaks and receives Guinness World Record in this category
Cristiano Ronaldo keeps making history and adding records to his brilliant career. Before the second-leg match between Portugal and Denmark in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals, the Portuguese superstar received a new recognition from the Guinness World Records. This time, the award certifies him as the player with the most wins in international football history, reaching a total of 132 victories, surpassing the previous record held by Sergio Ramos.
The achievement is based on the milestone Ronaldo reached last November when Portugal thrashed Poland 5-1, securing his 132nd win with the national team. This adds to his long list of records, including being the all-time top scorer in international football with over 120 goals and the first player to hit 100 goals in UEFA competitions. Off the pitch, he's also been recognized as the most-followed person on Instagram, with over 500 million followers.
Recognition at home and a decisive match
The tribute took place at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, just minutes before Ronaldo stepped onto the pitch to lead his team in the crucial rematch against Denmark. However, the match didn’t start well for the Al Nassr forward, as he missed a key penalty early on. Just five minutes into the game, CR7 took the shot, but Kasper Schmeichel guessed right and made the save.
Despite the miss, Ronaldo kept pushing and remained a key figure in the game. In the 38th minute of the first half, his presence in the box forced an own goal from Joachim Andersen, leveling the aggregate score for Portugal. Shortly after, he found the net but had his goal ruled out for offside. In the second half, though, he got his redemption, scoring a crucial goal that helped his team secure a 3-2 win and force extra time.
Portugal advances with Ronaldo leading the way
With this victory, Portugal booked their spot in the UEFA Nations League semifinals, where they will face Germany in what promises to be a thrilling showdown. At 40 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to prove that his legacy is far from over, racking up records and leading his national team in pursuit of another international title.
Even though the match had its ups and downs for the Portuguese captain, his impact on the game and his resilience were on full display once again. Now, with another Guinness World Record to his name and his sights set on the Nations League, CR7 keeps cementing his legendary status in world football.
