Injury Ends Novak Djokovic's Season: Will Miss ATP Finals
Serbian Novak Djokovic announced on Tuesday that he will not defend his title at the ATP Finals in Turin due to injury.
Serbian Novak Djokovic announced on Tuesday that he will not defend his title at the ATP Finals in Turin due to injury. The tournament, which brings together the top eight players on the circuit, will still feature Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
“It’s an honor to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin. I was looking forward to being there, but due to an ongoing injury, I won’t be available next week,” he wrote on Instagram, without specifying the nature of the injury.
“I apologize to everyone who planned to see me. I wish all the players a great tournament. See you soon,” he added.
Djokovic has effectively ended his season, as Serbia is not qualified for the Davis Cup in Málaga, where Spain’s Rafael Nadal will officially retire from tennis.
At 37, ‘Nole’ made his last appearance in the Six Kings Slam, defeating Nadal in the third-place match. His last official match was at the Shanghai Masters 1000, where he lost to Sinner in the final.
This season, Djokovic has won only one title: the Olympic gold in Paris 2024, the last major achievement missing from his record and his main goal of the year. He suffered a meniscus injury at Roland Garros, though he still managed to reach the Wimbledon final, where he fell to Carlos Alcaraz.
