Fernando Valenzuela to Be Honored Once Again During the Caribbean Series 2025
The Mexican Pacific League (LMP) will pay tribute to legendary Mexican pitcher Fernando Valenzuela during the 2025 Caribbean Series, set to take place in Mexicali from January 31 to February 7. This homage aims to celebrate the enduring legacy of the late baseball icon, who passed away on October 22, 2024, leaving an indelible mark on both Mexican and international baseball.
A Tribute Worthy of His Legacy
Carlos Manrique, President of the LMP, emphasized the importance of honoring Valenzuela’s memory:
"We are brainstorming ideas and discussing ways to make this tribute special. It’s very unfortunate that he left us, and I believe no effort will truly match what he represents and contributed to baseball and to Mexico," Manrique said.
The tribute will be a highlight of the Caribbean Series, where championship teams from winter leagues in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Panama, and Colombia will compete.
Fernando Valenzuela’s Impact
Born in Navojoa, Sonora, Fernando Valenzuela achieved legendary status during his Major League career, particularly with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he was instrumental in their 1981 World Series Championship.
Beyond his achievements on the field, Valenzuela became a cultural icon, representing hope and pride for the Latino community in the United States and solidifying his status as a beacon of Mexican baseball excellence.
