The Filipino Carlos Yulo became a hero after winning two gold medals in gymnastics at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the floor and vault events. The 24-year-old from Manila clinched the gold medal in the vault event with an average score of 15.116 points, beating Armenian Artur Davtyan, who took silver, and Briton Harry Hepworth, who won bronze.

I really didn’t expect a medal. We’re a really small country…so winning a gold medal for us is big, it’s huge. I dedicate it to the Filipino people who supported me,” said the gymnast.

- The Philippine House of Representatives will award him another 6 million pesos (about $103,000) in cash.
- A gastroenterologist offered him free consultations and colonoscopies for life.
- The University of Mindanao promised him college credits.
- A lifetime supply of mac and cheese, ramen, and grilled chicken offered by various restaurants.
- A wedding photographer promised free services for the future.
- A company offered him a lifetime supply of phone cases.
- Some restaurants and cafes celebrated Yulo’s medals by offering free meals to anyone named “Carlos” or “Edriel” (his middle name).
