How Central African Republic Arrive
The Fauves opened their campaign with a 3-1 defeat against Mauritania, also in Casablanca. Aboubakary Koïta gave the Mourabitounes the lead from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute before Goduine Koyalipou equalized for Central African Republic shortly after halftime.
The match turned decisively toward Mauritania late on. Dawda Camara restored the lead in the 69th minute before Mamadou Diallo completed the 3-1 victory in the 89th.
Eloge Enza-Yamissi’s team therefore enters Matchday 2 without a point and looking for an immediate response against one of the group’s highest-seeded teams.
How Burkina Faso Arrive
Burkina Faso began its qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw against Benin at the Stade du 4-Août in Ouagadougou.
Lassina Traoré put the Stallions ahead from the penalty spot in the 20th minute, but Tosin Aiyegun equalized with another penalty in the 68th.
Head coach Amir Abdou entered the opening window with an experienced core including Edmond Tapsoba, Nasser Djiga, Issa Kaboré, Dango Ouattara and Traoré, while also handing first senior call-ups to four players.
An Important Early Battle in Group F
Central African Republic and Burkina Faso share Group F with Mauritania and Benin. The top two teams will qualify directly for AFCON 2027, making every point significant in a group stage consisting of only six matches per nation.
After the opening round, Mauritania started with three points, while Burkina Faso and Benin collected one each. Central African Republic will be trying to avoid consecutive defeats and move back into the qualification race.
