Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, expressed his support for Mexican coach Javier Aguirre after he was struck on the head by an object thrown from the stands following the Honduras-Mexico match. Infantino stated that "there is no place for violence in football."

In an official statement, the FIFA president called for strict action against those responsible for such acts and expressed regret over the widely circulated images of Aguirre bleeding while shaking hands with members of the Honduras coaching staff.

"I was shocked and saddened to witness the horrifying incident in which an object struck Mexico's coach, Javier Aguirre, at the end of the match against Honduras. There is no place for violence in football, either on or off the field. Incidents like this have no place in our sport or our society," Infantino declared.

"Without exception, everyone involved in football—players, coaches, referees, and fans—must be guaranteed the safety they need to enjoy our sport. I urge the relevant authorities to ensure this is upheld at all levels," he added. Aguirre was attacked after the final whistle of the match held at Estadio Francisco Morazán in San Pedro Sula. A fan threw an object from the stands, striking Aguirre on the head and causing a cut.
