Real Madrid Undefeated with Referee to Officiate at Anfield
French referee François Letexier is set to oversee the crucial match between Liverpool and Real Madrid on Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League.
Known for officiating the final of the last European Championship, Letexier holds a notable record with the Spanish team: Real Madrid has never lost under his refereeing.
The statistics are clear. Letexier has presided over three of the Spanish club’s matches in European competitions, all of which ended favorably for them.
Highlights include a 2-0 victory against Chelsea in the quarterfinals of the 2022-2023 season and an exhilarating 4-2 against Napoli in the group stage.
He also managed a thrilling 3-3 draw against Manchester City, reinforcing the notion that his presence tends to coincide with positive outcomes for Real Madrid.
Liverpool, on the other hand, has a more modest record with the French referee. Letexier was in charge of their Champions League debut during a 1-1 draw against Midtjylland in 2020.
While they have not encountered each other since, his appointment to this game adds an extra layer to the match’s narrative, given his history with Real Madrid.
The officiating team will primarily consist of French officials, with Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni as assistants, while Jérôme Brisard will handle VAR duties, assisted by Italian Aleandro di Paolo. Jeremy Stinat will complete the team as the fourth official.
