This Would be Harry Kane's Last World Cup
At 31 years old, England’s captain has rejected the idea that the next World Cup will be his last tournament with the Three Lions.
Reaching your thirties usually means approaching the end of a professional athlete's career, but at 31, Harry Kane is closer to the end than the beginning. Questions about how much longer he has to continue shining with England have already begun. After the victory over Ireland (5-0), in which he scored his 69th goal for the Three Lions, England’s all-time top scorer was asked whether the 2026 World Cup would be his last major competition. Kane dismissed the idea with his usual British calm: “I don’t think so. There’s a perception when you hit your thirties that you’re nearing the end, but personally, I’ve never played at such a high level and I feel better than ever. The World Cup promises to be exciting. In America, we’ll have an incredible opportunity, and in the end, we’ll try to win,” he said during the unveiling of a bronze statue in his honor at the Peter May Sports Center in East London, where he started playing football at age 5.
A prolific start to the season
Far from thinking about hanging up his boots, Harry Kane is looking beyond the United States, Mexico, and Canada, the hosts of the upcoming World Cup. He likely already has his sights set on Euro 2028, which will take place in the British Isles with the final at Wembley. A promising prospect, as he’ll only be 35 years old at the time.
Recently, Kane explained that he draws inspiration from Cristiano Ronaldo (39 years old) to extend his career to the fullest, paying attention to his lifestyle and continuously working to improve his game. This work ethic is paying off, as this season he has already scored 20 goals in 20 matches played with England and Bayern Munich, which helps calm English concerns about a potential decline in his performance.
