FAR Rabat Secure Bronze in CAF Women's Champions League
Morocco’s FAR Rabat clinched the third position in this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League with a convincing 2-0 victory over Ampem Darkoa at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo on Saturday.
The former champions, having been eliminated in the semi-finals by inaugural champions Mamelodi Sundowns, had to settle for a third-place contest. Ampem Darkoa, making their debut in the competition, emerged as the fourth-best team – a remarkable achievement for the Ghanaian side on their maiden appearance. They had been knocked out in the semi-finals by SC Casablanca, who will face Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.
Former champions FAR Rabat took just over half an hour to find the opener, with a Mafia Nyame strike in the 33rd minute propelling them into the lead. This goal spurred the Moroccans on, and with momentum in their favor, Ghizlane Chebbak sealed the victory just before the break with a goal in the dying minutes of the first half, making it 2-0 over the Ghanaian outfit.
Returning from halftime, Ampem Darkoa had some promising moments in their build-ups but failed to trouble the former champions, who displayed clinical defense, allowing very few scoring opportunities for their opponents.
With no additional goals in the second half, the match concluded with a victory for the Moroccans, securing their position as the third-best side in the CAF Women’s Champions League, Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
