Huracanes and AS Mandé Clash to a Draw in CAF Women's Champions League Opener
In the opening match of Group B in the CAF Women's Champions League, debutants from Equatorial Guinea, Huracanes FC, managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Mali's, AS Mandé. The match saw an evenly balanced contest come to life in the second half when Huracanes were awarded a penalty. Elena Obono confidently stepped up to the spot in the 66th minute and converted the chance, giving Huracanes a lead. However, their celebration was short-lived as AS Mandé's captain, Fatoumata Diarra, found the back of the net with an equalizer just six minutes later, setting the stage for a tense finish.
The drama intensified towards the match's end when AS Mandé were dealt a significant blow. Their goalkeeper, Fatoumata Karentao, was sent off with a red card in the 81st minute, forcing the team to see out the final minutes with ten players. Despite the numerical disadvantage, AS Mandé held on, ensuring the points were shared on the day.
Looking ahead, Huracanes will take on the defending champions AS FAR in their next group stage encounter on November 9, a significant test for the newcomers. AS Mandé, on the other hand, will face Ampem Darkoa Ladies, who will be coming into the match with confidence after their previous win. The outcomes of these matches will be pivotal in shaping the final standings of Group B in the CAF Women's Champions League. #CAFWCL
