River Plate anticipates the signing of a World Cup champion
River Plate changed the logo of its profile on the social network X to an egg, anticipating the arrival of defender Marcos Acuña, World Cup champion and two-time Copa América winner with the Albiceleste, who arrived in Argentina to finalize his signing.
The club replaced its crest on X with a white egg on a red background, the colors of the "Millonario," which will soon be worn by the left-back coming from Spanish side Sevilla, whose nickname is fittingly "Huevo" (Egg).
On its Instagram profile, River didn't change its crest but posted an image of its stadium, the Más Monumental, with a giant egg—white with a red stripe—inside, accompanied by an emoji that says "soon."
Acuña arrived in Argentina to finalize his signing, becoming the second Albiceleste international to return to the country after winning the World Cup in Qatar, following Germán Pezzella's arrival at the "Millonario" earlier this month, motivated by Marcelo Gallardo's return as the club's coach.
Sevilla announced today that Acuña was "resolving his future" and, for that reason, was absent from today's training session with the Spanish club.
In recent days, it was already expected that the defender from Zapala (Neuquén, south) would return to Argentine football, from where he left in 2017 to sign for Sporting Lisbon.
After three seasons with the Lisbon club, the former Ferro Carril Oeste and Racing de Avellaneda player signed for Sevilla, where he has spent four seasons, playing 149 official matches, scoring six goals, and providing twelve assists.
