Who Will Boca Face in the Libertadores? The Preliminary Stage Draw Revealed
Boca Juniors will begin their journey in the 2025 Copa Libertadores in Phase 2, facing the winner of the clash between Nacional de Paraguay and Alianza Lima. Aiming to secure a spot in the group stage, the team led by Fernando Gago must overcome two preliminary rounds. The series will start on February 18 as the away team and conclude at La Bombonera on February 25, thanks to Boca’s higher position in the Conmebol rankings.
If they advance past this first stage, Boca would then face the winner of the matchup between Deportes Iquique from Chile and Independiente Santa Fe from Colombia in Phase 3. This decisive match will determine if Boca earns a spot in the group stage of South America’s most prestigious tournament. A loss in Phase 2 would eliminate them from all international competitions in 2025, but a loss in Phase 3 would send them directly to the Copa Sudamericana.
One of the most thrilling possibilities for fans is that, if Boca reaches the group stage, they could share a group with River Plate, their biggest rival. This could happen because Boca would enter the draw in Pot 4, while River, as a top seed, would be in Pot 1. It would be the first time in years that these two Argentine football giants face each other in this stage of the tournament.
Boca finds itself in this position after finishing fifth in the annual standings of the 2024 Liga Profesional, earning 67 points. This secured their place in Phase 2 of the Libertadores, but now they must prove their strength to overcome tough opponents and remain in the international spotlight.
The schedule is set, and fans eagerly await Boca's performance as they aim to progress to the group stage. The journey begins in February, promising exciting nights and challenges in South America’s most prestigious tournament.
