Álvaro Morata Has Decided His Future with Atlético de Madrid
Álvaro Morata, the striker for Atlético de Madrid, has committed to staying with the club until at least 2026, following recent uncertainty about his future. Despite weeks of speculation, Morata made it clear that he won't stop until he wins with Atlético.
"I can't imagine what it must be like to win with this jersey, and I won't stop until I achieve it," Morata posted on his official Instagram account on Tuesday afternoon. Atlético Madrid also shared the news on their official account, confirming that the player will remain under Diego Simeone's guidance.
In recent weeks, Morata's future with Atlético was in doubt due to his substitute role in the final matches of the season. He wanted to feel important for the upcoming season amid rumors of the club's interest in signing new attackers.
Morata played 48 matches last season, starting 33 of them, scoring 21 goals—his most productive season—and providing four assists. However, he was benched for the last five consecutive matches after being substituted at halftime in the Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund.
The Spanish international has appeared in 154 games, starting 110, and scoring 58 goals over his two stints with Atlético. His first stint lasted from January 2019 to June 2020, and his second has been over the last two seasons, with a two-year loan spell at Juventus in between.
