Éder Militão Scheduled for Surgery Following Severe Knee Injury
The Brazilian will undergo surgery for the severe knee injury he sustained on November 9 during the match between Real Madrid and Osasuna.
Brazilian defender Éder Militão will undergo surgery on Tuesday, November 19, to repair a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) along with damage to both menisci in his right knee. The injury occurred on November 9 during the match against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Militão sustained the injury in the 27th minute while attempting a header during a set-piece. His knee got stuck awkwardly in the Osasuna penalty area, and he fell to the ground in clear pain. His teammates immediately called for medical assistance, and the Brazilian center-back was carried off the field on a stretcher.
This is not Militão’s first significant knee injury. The international defender suffered a similar setback during the first matchday of La Liga last season, on August 12, at San Mamés. He recovered from the torn ACL in his left knee and returned to action on March 31, also against Athletic Club in a league match.
This marks the second severe knee injury Militão has suffered in the past 15 months. This time, with additional meniscal damage, the recovery process is expected to take approximately nine months from the date of surgery.
The procedure, scheduled for this Tuesday, will be performed by Dr. Manuel Leyes, who also operated on him in August 2023.
