Barcelona to Take Dani Olmo Case to CAS
The club seeks urgent measures to register its players.
Barcelona will appeal to the Administrative Tribunal for Sport (TAD), under the jurisdiction of Spain’s Superior Sports Council (CSD), following the decision by the Monitoring Commission of the LaLiga-RFEF Coordination Agreement (Royal Spanish Football Federation) to deny the re-registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor.
A spokesperson for the club confirmed this to EFE. With this urgent appeal, Barcelona aims to register both players so they can be available for the upcoming Spanish Super Cup set to take place in Saudi Arabia.
The Monitoring Commission’s Decision
The commission, after a thorough review of the applicable regulations, determined "not to grant the prior authorization nor the final license requested by FC Barcelona for players D. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and D. Pau Víctor Delgado," as stated in an official statement.
LaLiga and the RFEF explained that their decision is based on a literal interpretation of Articles 130.2 and 141.5 of the RFEF General Regulations. These provisions prohibit a player whose license has been canceled from obtaining a new one with the same club during the same season.
This applies to Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, who as of January 1, 2025, were not listed among the players registered by Barcelona on LaLiga's official website. Both players were removed from the list because, according to the entity led by Javier Tebas, the club failed to meet the financial control requirements.
The Force Majeure Argument
As a result, Barcelona requested a new license from the RFEF, citing "force majeure," but this request was denied. The issue arose because the club could not verify before the fiscal year ended that it had received part of the €100 million from the lease of VIP boxes at the new Spotify Camp Nou. However, this situation was resolved last Friday when the club received international transfers from two Middle Eastern investors involved in the contract.
With the financial backing now in place, Barcelona hopes the TAD will issue a favorable ruling, allowing the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor for the team’s upcoming critical fixtures.
