French defender Clément Lenglet of Atlético Madrid sustained sprains in both his knee and ankle during Sunday’s match against Leganés, as confirmed by medical tests on Monday. As a result, he will miss the next five matches for the team, depending on the progression of his injuries.

"The No. 15 of the red-and-whites has a grade I sprain of the internal collateral ligament in his left knee and a grade I/II sprain of the deltoid ligament in his left ankle," according to the club’s medical report, which did not specify a recovery timeline. It only mentioned that the player "will begin physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation work and will be monitored for progress."

These types of injuries generally take around three weeks to recover, meaning Lenglet will miss the matches against Lille, Betis, Vic, Las Palmas, Paris Saint-Germain, and Mallorca, in that order, before the international break from November 11 to 21.

Lenglet suffered the injury during a defensive clash with his teammate Axel Witsel in Sunday’s game against Leganés. The Belgian center-back fell onto Lenglet’s knee and ankle, and although the Frenchman was treated on the pitch, he managed to walk off the field by himself. Medical tests on Monday confirmed the sprains.

The 29-year-old French center-back, on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season, had been a starter in Atlético’s last two games: first against Real Sociedad, which ended in a 1-1 draw with Lenglet playing the full match, and then against Leganés, where Atlético won 3-1, although Lenglet was substituted due to injury in the 64th minute, when his team was still trailing 0-1.

Having not played a single minute in the first ten games of the season, Lenglet had earned his place in the starting lineup due to his adaptation to the team, the injuries to Robin Le Normand and César Azpilicueta, and his strong performances, first against Real Sociedad and then against Leganés.

Lenglet is one of five players ruled out for Atlético's Champions League match against Lille this Wednesday, along with Marcos Llorente, César Azpilicueta, Robin Le Normand, and Pablo Barrios, who also suffered a muscle injury during the game against Leganés.
