Barcelona face Osasuna with key absences and the top spot on the line
Barcelona return to action on Thursday night against Osasuna at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, in a rescheduled LaLiga fixture originally postponed following the passing of club doctor Carles Miñarro. The match holds major weight in the title race, with Barça aiming to defend their place at the top of the standings—despite a long list of unavailable players.
Raphinha and Ronald Araújo are ruled out due to travel from international duty, while Íñigo Martínez remains a doubt with physical discomfort and Pau Cubarsí is nursing a knock after returning early from Spain’s national team. As a result, the likely center-back pairing will be Eric García and Íñigo, flanked by Jules Koundé and Alejandro Balde.
The midfield also presents challenges. Marc Casadó is out with a ligament injury, and Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Dani Olmo may be limited due to post-FIFA break fatigue. Expect Gavi, Fermín, and Ferran Torres—who scored a brace in the win at Atlético—to step up. The only guaranteed name in attack appears to be Lamine Yamal.
Osasuna hope to repeat the upset
Despite just one win in their last 15 matches, Osasuna are confident heading into this clash, recalling their 4-2 victory over Barcelona earlier this season. Manager Vicente Moreno sees this match as a potential turning point in the fight to avoid relegation.
Currently 14th with 33 points, Osasuna will be without Bryan Zaragoza (injury), Lucas Torró (suspension), and possibly Enzo Boyomo, who remains on international duty. Their offensive hopes lie with Ante Budimir and Kike Barja, supported by Rubén García in a playmaking role.
🗣️ “We have two tough games ahead, but we already beat them this season. We need to believe,” said Moreno in his pre-match press conference.
Possible lineups
Barcelona (4-3-3): Szczesny; Koundé, Eric García, Íñigo Martínez, Balde; De Jong, Pedri, Gavi or Olmo; Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres or Lewandowski, Fermín.
Osasuna (4-3-3): Herrera; Areso, Catena, Herrando, Juan Cruz; Moncayola, Iker Muñoz, Aimar; Rubén García; Budimir, Kike Barja.
