Marcos Llorente Traveled Incognito To Valencia To Help Those Affected By The DANA Storm
Atlético de Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente set an example of solidarity by traveling to Valencia to help those affected by the DANA storm, despite currently recovering from a muscle injury. With permission from the club, which placed no restrictions on his travel, Llorente took advantage of his time in Madrid and embarked on the journey to Valencia at five in the morning.
The Atlético player, unable to join his team on their trip to Paris for the Champions League match against PSG, joined other sports figures to contribute to this challenging tragedy affecting the Valencian Community. Accompanied by his father and a friend, he loaded two vans with nearly 400 power washers, each valued at around $460, and made his way to the area around Mestalla.
In statements to Relevo, Llorente explained: "The club gave us the go-ahead to come and help, so this morning at five we left with two vans that we loaded with Kärchers yesterday. Helping like everyone else who can; I'm not doing anything special.” Despite the magnitude of the situation, the player showed humility and was aware of the collective effort of those assisting: "Everyone is getting involved, and we (the players) are just one more group doing our bit."
Llorente also shared his views on the confusion that has been visible on social media, after watching videos of people feeling abandoned: "From the outside, it looks like chaos. It’s hard to know what’s really happening. People post videos showing that they’re being denied access, that their supplies aren’t being picked up... From the outside, it looks chaotic in terms of organization because, with so many wanting to help, everyone is trying to pitch in.”
This gesture by Marcos Llorente has been widely praised by the people of Valencia, who expressed gratitude for his presence and support. After delivering the relief supplies, the footballer will return to Madrid, where his team will play tonight. Although he won’t be on the field, Llorente made sure to send his encouragement to Atlético de Madrid from home.
