Szczesny Talks About His Move to Barcelona, Smoking, and His Return to Football
Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny gave a revealing interview in which he discussed several topics related to his personal and professional life, including his recent signing with FC Barcelona, his views on smoking, and some of his new teammates. Szczesny was clear about his stance on smoking, stating that he does it occasionally and doesn’t believe it affects his performance on the pitch.
The goalkeeper emphasized that his private life shouldn’t be a matter of public debate, noting that he always gives his best at work and avoids smoking in front of children to prevent being a bad influence. "I try to keep it private, but sometimes someone takes photos of me in secret. I can’t control that, but what matters is that I continue to be judged as a professional footballer, not for what I do off the field," Szczesny firmly stated.
Szczesny also shared his thoughts on some Barcelona players, pointing out that defender Cubarsí was a pleasant surprise. "I expected a technical defender, perhaps a bit softer, and I was impressed to see him make such solid decisions and be defensively very strong," he noted.
The goalkeeper made the decision to return to football after retiring this past summer, citing the influence of his friend and compatriot Robert Lewandowski, as well as Barcelona’s enticing offer, as key factors in his comeback. Although his body could still handle more years of playing, Szczesny had decided to retire, but the opportunity to join the Catalan club was too tempting to turn down.
