Atlético Madrid still have work to do before finalizing their squad. Diego Simeone wants another option up front, and Alexander Sørloth’s absence at the start of the season has made that search even more important.

That is where Nicolas Jackson comes into the picture.

RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins has named the striker as one of the players being considered by the Spanish club. For now, Jackson is simply one of several alternatives being evaluated, with no agreement or advanced negotiations in place.

And there is one important detail: Jackson would not arrive to replace Julián Álvarez.

The idea would be to add another striker who can play alongside the Argentine, compete with Sørloth once the Norwegian returns and give Simeone a different option for certain matches.

Why Could Jackson Fit at Atlético?

According to AS, the striker’s characteristics are well suited to what Simeone wants to build.

Jackson spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich, where he recorded eight goals and three assists. At 25, he combines power and speed with the mobility to operate in different areas across the front line.

That could be one of his biggest attractions for Atlético.

The Senegalese striker can attack the space behind defenders, use his speed when his team wins possession and also operate alongside another forward. With Julián Álvarez constantly moving between the lines and drifting away from the penalty area, Jackson could provide a more physical presence closer to goal.

He does not have exactly the same characteristics as Sørloth. The Norwegian offers a greater aerial threat and operates more as a traditional reference inside the box, while Jackson is more likely to move around, find open spaces and attack with pace. That difference could give Simeone another way to approach matches.

He would also not need much time to become familiar with Spanish soccer. His spell with Villarreal gave him experience in LaLiga before continuing his career abroad.

More Options Around Julián Álvarez

Sørloth’s injury comes just as Atlético prepare for the start of the league campaign. The Norwegian will be sidelined with a muscular problem, forcing Simeone to find other solutions while waiting for one of his strikers to return.

That is why signing another forward could still make sense even after Sørloth is back.

The objective would be to increase the options around Julián Álvarez, who will remain one of the most important pieces in Atlético’s attack. Having Jackson available could even allow the two to play together, with the Senegalese striker attacking space and occupying center-backs while the Argentine enjoys greater freedom to move across the entire attacking line.

Mateu Alemany continues working on the final stages of the transfer window, and the club are also looking to add more one-on-one ability out wide. The intention appears clear: give Simeone more weapons and avoid relying on the same players throughout a long season.

For now, Nicolas Jackson is only a possibility.

But his profile is certainly interesting. He has experience in England, Germany and Spain, is still at an age where he can continue developing, and could offer Atlético a combination of speed, power and movement that would complement both Julián and Sørloth.

Atlético Madrid could still have moves to make.

And Jackson has become one of the names to watch as Simeone looks to complete his attacking options.
