The race for Nicolas Jackson is becoming more complicated for Atlético Madrid. The Senegalese striker remains one of the preferred options to strengthen Diego Simeone’s attack, but Los Rojiblancos now face competition from the Premier League, with Aston Villa also interested.
Aston Villa Join the Race for Nicolas Jackson
A few days ago, Jackson emerged as one of Atlético’s options due to the need to add another striker. Alexander Sørloth’s injury has left Simeone with fewer alternatives at the start of the season, prompting the club to search for a forward with similar characteristics.
The idea has never been to find a replacement for Julián Álvarez, whose potential departure was rejected by Atlético, but rather to add another piece who can play alongside him and give Simeone more options up front.
Jackson now appears to have gained ground among the candidates.
Mateu Alemany Travels to London
According to MARCA, Mateu Alemany, Atlético Madrid’s director of men’s professional soccer, traveled to London on Thursday with transfer business at the top of his agenda.
One of the names involved in those discussions is precisely Nicolas Jackson.
The Senegalese striker belongs to Chelsea, and finding a formula to bring him back to LaLiga will not be easy. Atlético have already made a significant investment during this transfer window, including the arrival of Cristian “Cuti” Romero, meaning another major operation could put additional pressure on the club’s finances.
For that reason, a loan has emerged as one of the possibilities to unlock the move. The player’s salary would also have to be part of the negotiations with Chelsea.
Alemany himself recently acknowledged to Movistar how difficult it has become to complete these types of deals.
“Everything is complicated. The market, if you look at it from the outside, has become tough, and every year it gets more complicated because there is a lot of money in the system. There is inflation. Special players are difficult to get.”
Aston Villa Also Want Jackson
The problem for Atlético is that they are no longer alone.
Aston Villa have also emerged among the clubs interested in Jackson and could become serious competition if they decide to make a move for the striker.
Staying in England would represent a very different alternative for the Senegalese forward. He already knows the Premier League extremely well and would not have to go through another adaptation process.
Atlético, however, have another argument: Jackson also knows Spanish soccer.
Before joining Chelsea, he played for Villarreal, where he made 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing six assists. His breakthrough with the Yellow Submarine was precisely what eventually opened the door to a move to England.

Why Does Jackson Fit Simeone’s Style?
Jackson offers several of the characteristics Diego Simeone is looking for.
He has the power to attack space, the speed to run in behind defenses and the mobility to avoid operating exclusively as a traditional penalty-box striker. He can also drift into wider areas and create opportunities when his team needs to attack more directly.
His arrival would allow different combinations with Julián Álvarez and, once he returns from injury, Alexander Sørloth. Jackson would not necessarily arrive to take either player’s place, but rather to add depth and provide more alternatives to an attack that will need options throughout a long season.
At 25, he also still has room to develop.
Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal and later spent time on loan at Bayern Munich, where he gained further experience at the highest level of European soccer.
Now another move could be on the horizon.
Atlético Madrid are already working to understand the conditions of a potential deal, but the emergence of Aston Villa adds another obstacle.
Atlético’s advantage could be offering him a return to LaLiga and an important role in Simeone’s project.
Aston Villa’s advantage is the opportunity to keep him in a Premier League he already knows.
The race for Nicolas Jackson is on.
