Julián Alvarez Misses Atlético Madrid Training for Second Consecutive Day

  • Julián Alvarez was once again absent from Atlético Madrid training, putting his availability against Sevilla in serious doubt as uncertainty over his future continues.

The situation surrounding Julián Alvarez is drawing increasing attention at Atlético Madrid. The Argentine forward did not take part in Thursday’s training session for the second consecutive day due to an illness that also prevented him from working with his teammates the previous day.

The striker is still not ready to return to action, and his availability for the club’s next LaLiga match remains in doubt. Diego Simeone’s side will visit Sevilla on Saturday and could be without one of its main attacking threats.

Simeone Could Be Without Julián Against Sevilla

The absence of Julián Alvarez creates another problem for Simeone, especially with Alexander Sorloth also sidelined through injury. The Argentine coach may have to turn to alternative options to shape his attack.

During training, Ademola Lookman once again emerged as one of the main attacking options. Cristian Romero and Morten Hjulmand also trained normally after the latter experienced some discomfort during the previous session.

Simeone used the training session to test several different combinations. Among the players involved were Jan Oblak, Alejandro Grimaldo, David Hancko, Marc Pubill, Marcos Llorente, Giuliano Simeone, Koke, Pablo Barrios, Álex Baena, Lookman and Kang-in Lee.

His Future Also Remains Uncertain

Julián Alvarez’s physical condition comes during the final days of the transfer window, with speculation continuing over a potential departure from Atlético Madrid.

Barcelona continues to be linked with the World Cup-winning Argentine. Joan Laporta recently stated that the Catalan club’s offer for the forward remains on the table, while Arsenal has also emerged as a potential destination should a transfer ultimately materialize.

For its part, Atlético Madrid is maintaining a firm stance and, according to reports in Spain, has no intention of facilitating the striker’s departure.

As the transfer window enters its decisive hours, the immediate priority will be monitoring Julián Alvarez’s recovery. His second consecutive absence from training increases doubts over his participation against Sevilla and adds even more uncertainty around one of the most talked-about names of the summer.
