Monterrey Finds Victory Again… But Sergio Ramos Ended Up Expelled: "I Wasn’t Going To Leave without a Red Card"
Monterrey won against Pumas (1-3) away after being eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions League
The elimination against Vancouver in the round of 16 of the CONCACAF Champions League had caused a rift in Rayados de Monterrey. But, while the future of Martín Demichelis is still being discussed, they found victory again in Liga MX against Pumas (1-3) in a match full of controversy… which eventually led to the first red card for Sergio Ramos since he arrived in Mexico.

First red card for Sergio Ramos in Liga MX
Throughout the match, Sergio Ramos was involved in several altercations with multiple Pumas players. Right from the start of the game, he had his first dispute with Lisandro Magallán and later committed an aggressive foul on Pablo Bennevendo, which wasn’t even penalized. However, during the match, the referee did not call a single foul on Sergio Ramos.
However, when the game was already completely decided in favor of Rayados de Monterrey, who moved into the 'playoff' spots after defeating Pumas, Sergio Ramos was sent off in stoppage time for violent conduct after an altercation with Guillermo Martínez, who had scored Pumas's only goal from the penalty spot just minutes earlier.
Sergio Ramos's comment after his red card
Throughout his career, Sergio Ramos has been sent off a total of 31 times… although never while representing the Spanish national team. His most recent red card, however, dated back to November 26th in a LaLiga match between Real Sociedad and Sevilla. Just like in this case, Sergio Ramos was sent off in the final minutes… but for an in-game incident.
After the match, Sergio Ramos commented on his red card on social media, downplaying the situation: "It was clear that I wasn’t going to leave this league without a red card,” he said on his X and Instagram accounts. A comment that likely didn’t sit too well with fans, as Sergio Ramos will not play (at least) the next match in Liga MX against Xolos de Tijuana after the FIFA break.
