European Nightmare for Ligue 1 Teams
The three teams from Ligue 1 still alive in Europe had a forgettable matchday with three defeats in their respective games.
The three French teams playing in Europe, PSG, Olympique de Marseille, and Lille, had a forgettable matchday in their respective competitions. All three suffered defeats.
Don't miss all the excitement of Matchday 29 in Ligue 1 starting with Metz vs Lens this Friday, April 12th, at 2:50 PM ET on beIN SPORTS
PSG, the only one of the three Ligue 1 teams playing at home, fell to Barcelona 2-3 in an exciting match with several comebacks in the 90 minutes. The Parisians will have to go to Barcelona in search of a comeback to reach the Champions League semifinals.
Olympique de Marseille visited Benfica in the UEFA Europa League, and Aubameyang's goal in the second half allowed the Marseille team to leave Portugal with a narrow defeat (2-1). Everything is open for the return leg at the Vélodrome.
The same 2-1 result occurred in Lille's visit to Aston Villa. The script was identical to Marseille's. The French team was trailing 2-0, and Diakite's goal in the 84th minute sets up a comeback opportunity in the second leg next week.
Indeed, the positive aspect for all three French teams is that none of them will have a Ligue 1 commitment this weekend, giving them more time than their rivals to prepare for the decisive second-leg matches after the nightmare experienced in the first leg. Because it's not about how it starts, but how it ends.
