Luis Enrique Dreams of PSG Treble
Paris Saint-Germain is in a good position and has "chances to win all the titles" this season, stated the club's coach, Luis Enrique Martínez, on Saturday.
"We're a month and a half away from the end of all competitions," the Spanish coach pointed out, highlighting the moment the Parisians are experiencing, affirming: "we're very well placed in all of them and have chances to win all the titles," speaking at a press conference before tomorrow's league match against Lyon, to be held in Paris.
Lyon will precisely be PSG's opponent in the French Cup final on May 25. Luis Enrique considered the league duel to be "a good test to see where we stand against the best team in the league in the last ten matchdays," but ruled out its usefulness in preparing for the final of the Cup. "Finals are different games," he reflected.
Lyon, one of the great historical teams of French football, started the season very poorly and was last in the table for a stretch of the championship, but the arrival of coach Pierre Sage has turned things around.
Currently, Lyon is seventh in the table and has qualified for the Cup final. "They have improved a lot and have approached European positions," Luis Enrique assessed.
With five matchdays remaining, PSG leads the league, with a commanding lead of ten points over Brest and eleven over Monaco, although the Parisians have one game in hand.
Despite that clear advantage, Luis Enrique assured that he's not in a hurry to win the title soon to focus on other tournaments. "There's no urgency of any kind," he stated.
Asked whether, if they qualify for the Champions League final, he prefers facing Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, he simply recalled that "first we need to eliminate (in the semifinal) the team that finished first in our group," Borussia Dortmund.
That Champions League group "was the group of death," he recalled, before insisting that Dortmund "has the same desire as us" to reach the final.
PSG won the French Super Cup in January, and if they win the three competitions they're still in, they would achieve a historic quadruple, in addition to their first UEFA Champions League.
