Javier Mascherano believes Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Inter Miami are all on the same wavelength as they target MLS success.

Former Argentina centre-back Mascherano continued Miami's Barcelona links when being appointed as their new head coach last November.

The ex-Liverpool midfielder has never managed a professional club at any level but brings copious experience, having won four LaLiga titles and two Champions League crowns.

His plight will be aided by being able to call upon superstars in Messi, Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, and Mascherano says all involved with the Herons are aligned in their plans.

"We cannot control the expectation. We can control what we are going to do into the pitch," the Miami head coach told GOAL.

"So we have to be focused on the pitch, analyse how we can play, and try to do it in the best way. Because if we play in the best way, we are going to be close to those expectations.

"We know how to work. They have experience and always, all of us, we have the same target to have success."

Miami will also compete in the Concacaf Champions Cup, Leagues Cup, and Club World Cup, as well as chasing MLS glory.

That will mean Messi's minutes have to be managed, as well as protecting one of the world's greatest forwards with defensive cover and energy around him on the pitch.

"He's the best player in the history of this sport. So around him always, you can find a lot of things, but I see him very quiet, relaxed, happy and I think our target is to try to give them the tools to have a very good season," Mascherano added on Messi.

Indeed, Miami's former Barcelona quartet, Messi included, are by no means getting any younger, with 146 years of age experience between them.

Yet the Miami boss believes his relationship with those four, as well as the rest of his squad, can prove fruitful.

"I'm here to try to help them," said Mascherano, who played with Messi at Barcelona for eight years. "Like I said from the first day, I'm here to help them have success.

"There aren't too many secrets in football. You have to try to give them some ideas, and they will take the rest."
