Good news for Manchester United
Lisandro Martínez, central del Manchester United, returned to training this Wednesday after recovering from the physical issues that kept him out of the last Argentina call-up and the match against Ipswich Town over the weekend.
The Argentine defender was present at the training session in Carrington to prepare for the upcoming Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt, where United aims to secure their second win in the group stage of the continental competition.
Martínez got injured before the international break and missed Argentina's defeat to Paraguay and their victory over Peru. He also couldn't participate in the first match of the Rúben Amorim era, in which United drew against Ipswich Town.
Martínez's recovery, along with that of Harry Maguire, who has been sidelined since October with a muscular problem and was also at training this Wednesday, is crucial for Amorim. The United coach plans to maintain the five-man defense system he previously implemented at Sporting CP in Portugal.
Given this approach and the defensive injury crisis, Amorim had to line up the veteran Johnny Evans in that position last Sunday, alongside Mathijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, who is a full-back. On the right wing, he had to field winger Amad Diallo, while on the left, Diogo Dalot played on his weaker foot.
Once Amorim has all his players available, it is expected that Lisandro Martínez and De Ligt will be regulars in the three-center-back setup, with Maguire, Leny Yoro, or Victor Lindelöf as the third option. The left-back position will be contested between Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, while the right-back spot will be a battle between Mazraoui and Dalot.
