Van Nistelrooy Debuts without Luck: United Left Empty-Handed Against Chelsea
Ruud Van Nistelrooy's debut as interim manager of Manchester United in the Premier League did not bring the expected miracle at Old Trafford. The team, which had shown renewed vigor after their rout in the League Cup, ended up with nothing against Chelsea. The hope of the "Red Devils" lasted only four minutes, enough time for Bruno Fernandes to score from the penalty spot and for Moisés Caicedo to equalize with a stunning goal.
Despite the improvement in Manchester United's attitude, which played with more verticality and personality than at the start of the season, it was not enough to overcome a Chelsea side that solidified its position in the Champions League zone. The London team, following the unexpected defeats of Manchester City and Arsenal, climbed to fourth place thanks to Caicedo's solidity in midfield and his excellent goal that avoided defeat.
While United awaits the arrival of Rúben Amorim, Van Nistelrooy still has a couple of games in charge. Although the team showed renewed energy, they failed to capitalize on their chances. Chelsea, with an attack inspired by Pedro Neto and Palmer, posed constant danger, and despite De Ligt's good performance in defense, United struggled to find calm in decisive moments.
The match turned into a tug-of-war where both teams squandered opportunities. Rashford was the first to take a shot, but his attempts proved ineffective. In one of the last plays of the first half, Rashford hit the post with a header, reflecting the "Red Devils'" lack of efficiency.
The second half continued with excitement, but United was hit again by Caicedo's goal. Although they had some chances towards the end, including a shot from Garnacho and an attempt from Bruno Fernandes that went into the stands, Manchester United could not change the course of the match, which ended in a draw, leaving the team in thirteenth place.
