Cristiano Ronaldo Stays True to His Roots
CR7 joined the celebrations for the league title won by Sporting Lisbon.
Cristiano Ronaldo joined the celebrations on Sunday for the league title won by Sporting Lisbon, the football club where he trained as a player, with a message on his social media congratulating his former team.
"Congratulations, champions!" wrote the Madeira native, who came through the academy and made his professional debut with the 'lions' before signing for Manchester United.
One of the kits Sporting wears this season, the alternate, features the player's brand -CR7- and pays homage to the jersey he wore for the team in 2004 during the inaugural match at the Estádio de Alvalade against United, where a young Cristiano impressed then-Manchester United coach, Alex Ferguson.
The club's training center is called "Cristiano Ronaldo Academy" and Gate 7 of the stadium bears his image and name. Additionally, his mother, whom CR7 affectionately congratulated recently for Mother's Day, has stated on occasion that she would like to see her son return to Sporting.
