Paul Pogba Has Moved on from Juventus
French midfielder Paul Pogba, still technically under contract with Juventus, seems to have put the Italian club behind him, especially after they made it clear they wouldn’t be bringing him back once his doping ban ends in March.
Pogba recently posted four photos of himself in the French national team jersey on social media with a message in English, and there was no mention of Juve, which he’s no longer even following. "I miss you… a lot!!! I’m getting ready to come back. I promise," he wrote on Instagram.
After the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced his doping ban from four years to just 18 months, Pogba expressed his desire to return to Juve in March, when his suspension ends. "I’m even willing to give up part of my salary to play for Juve again. I want to come back. I can’t picture myself in another jersey," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
However, the club has hinted they plan to end his contract. "The club’s position is clear: Paul was a great player, but he’s been out for a long time. We’ve invested in other players, and the squad is complete," said Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli.
The signs of a final goodbye are everywhere, with Pogba recently moving out of his Turin residence, which is now occupied by Argentine player Nico González. Currently, Pogba is on the minimum possible salary, around €2,000 per month. If he were to return to playing — which Juventus has ruled out — the club would be obligated to reinstate his full salary. Juventus is actively working on a way to permanently end his contract, while Pogba, now 31, will be free to join any club as a free agent when he’s eligible to play again in March.
