Icardi's Black Eye Sparks Controversy, Dzeko Fires Back
The SüperLig derby ended in a goalless draw on December 24th, but it stirred up quite a fuss between two teams whose rivalry is at its peak as they're tied in points for the overall SüperLig lead.
After a game full of clashes, one of those exchanges left Galatasaray's forward Mauro Icardi with a black eye, which didn't sit well with the club. They took to social media to express their stance on the situation.
"Those who want justice for themselves continued to manipulate Turkish football on every channel from every angle tonight," is part of Galatasaray's take on the incident that left the Argentine with an injury.
On the other hand, not only did Fenerbahce directly respond to this accusation, but their captain and top scorer, Edin Dzeko, did too. He replied to a post from insider Fabrizio Romano, confirming the situation. The Bosnian stated, "The guy hit the goalpost with his head and they put him on Insta and cry for the penalty. Typical them...... embarrassing...."
Fenerbahce, on their end, hit back on X with a response to Galatasaray's post, adding "Trying to stir up complaints about the player hitting the goalpost. 🤐 Up to the audience's judgment"
Both perspectives are now out there on social media, stemming from a derby that offered more than just football—a fierce rivalry in the battle to claim their local league between two Turkish football giants tied in points.
