(VIDEO) What Robert Lewandowski Said After Joining Messi, Ronaldo in Champions League 100-Goal Club
Robert Lewandowski reached a milestone that only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have achieved in the Champions League, scoring a brace during FC Barcelona's match against Brest. Reflecting on the achievement, he expressed feeling "proud" and rejuvenated at the Catalan club.
What Did Lewandowski Say After Reaching the 100-Goal Mark?
"I feel really good. After scoring two goals and reaching this amazing milestone of 100 goals in the Champions League, it makes me very proud," the Barça forward told CBS Sports.
"To be close to these two great names in football history... I’m just trying to do my best. Of course, it’s difficult to catch up to them, to be near their level, but you always have to dream. I didn’t believe I could score over 100 goals in the Champions League, and today I’m here. I can be proud of myself and also of the team, for how we’re playing and the goals we’re scoring," he added.
"There are so many young players at this club; sometimes I feel like a teenager, and that makes me stronger at times."
How Many Goals Do Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo Have?
Only Cristiano Ronaldo (140 goals in 183 matches) and Messi (129 in 163) surpass Lewandowski’s Champions League tally. However, Lewandowski's goal-per-game average (0.8) slightly edges out Ronaldo's (0.77) and Messi's (0.79).
How Are Lewandowski's Goals Distributed?
The Warsaw striker has scored 100 Champions League goals across three clubs. During his early days with Borussia Dortmund, he netted 17 goals in 28 matches. After moving to Bayern Munich in the 2014-15 season, he spent eight years with the club, scoring 69 goals in 78 Champions League games. Following his transfer to Barcelona in the 2022-23 season, he has played 19 matches in Europe’s top competition and scored 14 goals.
In the latter stages of his career, the Blaugrana "No. 9" seems to be enjoying a second youth at Barcelona. His impressive goal-scoring form this season supports that claim. After reaching his 100th Champions League goal, Lewandowski has tallied six goals in the first five rounds of the European competition, adding to the 15 goals he has scored in 14 LaLiga EA Sports matches.
